 SUPPORT ST. MARY'S

spire-construction-home-page.png

The spire of St Mary's, Harrow on the Hill, is the highest point in Middlesex:  early evening view clear across the City of London to Docklands and beyond. Consecrated in January 1094 by Anselm, Archbishop of Canterbury, St Mary's Church requires regular maintenance and upkeeping.

A structural survey of the Spire was recently carried out, showing that major renovation work is needed. The work will involve stripping the lead tiles from the Spire, checking the condition of the wooden frame and replacing as required. New lead tiles will then be fitted. The work will require significant scaffolding which accounts for a major part of the cost.

The estimated cost of the Spire renovation project is £600,000 comprising the works described above and a contingency. The images below display show damaged timbers that have been recently discovered following the scaffolding enabling builders to get a better look.

We aim to make sure the Spire stands as the prime landmark of Harrow for centuries to come? Donate to our Save the Spire campaign to support St. Mary's with the £600,000 renovation cost for our iconic spire.
